Our Programs

The Bradley Street Playschool serves four classrooms where children range from age 2 to age 5.

We believe in honoring a child’s right to be an active participant in their own learning, so we begin each day with classroom work, ranging from dramatic play to art and manipulatives to block building and sensory exploration. Children are given the freedom to visit between classrooms on their floor to fellowship and explore with their entire community. Because we respect the child’s right as “constructors of their own experience” we focus on a day with minimal transitions. We find that by taking our time, children go deeper into their play and learning. After our morning work time, children will return to a class meeting with their teacher where children may discuss topics of interest, listen to a story relevant to a subject they have been studying, or sing songs.

Children will then ready themselves for outside play. Time in nature is foundational to a child’s sense of self, place, and community so we will spend a good amount of time outside each day in all safe kinds of weather. We may dig in our school garden, create a sand castle/mountain/town, paint on the outside easel, splash in the rain, or create in the mud kitchen.

After outside time, children return to their classrooms for a lunchtime meal and then a nap. Children wake to a snack and more outside time before it is time to head home for the day.
